Mirror Image

I've sat before this very mirror
Very many times
And when I look into the mirror
I just want to cry.
I feel shallow and I feel stupid
As I dry my eyes
I let my mirror degrade me
But that I do not try.

I've stood before this very closet
Very many times
And when I look into the closet
I leave myself behind.
I feel useless and I feel ugly
As I think of my pain
I let my closet control what I am
And it is not very kind.

I've thought many times about myself
And what I say is true
I let my looks and I let my clothes
Decide what I do.
I don't want this to influence me
Because I can be real
And I want to show the inside of me
Not just what make-up can do.
