Filling the gap in The WB (now the CW) schedule that was left when Dawson's Creek left the airwaves, OTH has it all: Teen romance, friendship drama, family secrets, sports, cheerleaders, freaks, geeks, hot guys, beautiful girls, great music, betrayals, heroes and a super-heaping helping of teen angst! The action in season one revolved around Lucas and Nathan, half brothers who didn't grow up together (Nathan was raised by his parents, including Dan, who got Lucas' mother pregnant when he was in high school and then left her to raise Lucas on her own). But both Lucas and Nathan, like Dan, are superstar basketball players, which makes them rivals. Add into the mix the fact that Lucas falls in love with Nathan's girlfriend, Peyton, and that Nathan falls in love with Lucas' best friend, Haley, and the rivalry's kicked up another notch. THEN, throw Peyton's best friend, cheerleader Brooke, into the mix, and you've got a love triangle that leads to yet more drama! It was a great kick-off season to a show that continues to be must-see-TV today!
