To celebrate the debut of its newest creation, Giant Chewy NERDS candy, Wonka launched the Loss for Lyrics Contest with Raven-Symoné. The lucky winner will be flown to Los Angeles to professionally record the winning song with Ravens assistance! We got to sit down with the lifelong star of stage and screen for a little chat.
Teenmag: So, tell us about the Loss for Lyrics contest!
Raven: The Oompa Loompas lost their music and they dont have a song to sing anymore. So they [Wonka] are searching for people across the country to write a song for the Oompa Loompas to sing. You can go on the Website, wonka.com, and find out all the details. Its gonna be really cute.
Teenmag: What made you want to be involved?
Raven: Its a really fun project. First of all, I love Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the movie, so when the Willy Wonka [Candy Factory] company called me and said they wanted to do something with me, I was like, "Oh yeah, for sure!"
Teenmag: Do you have a sweet tooth?
Raven: I like NERDS Rope. I think thats my favorite candy. Thats actually from Wonka. Another reason I did it, candy!
Teenmag: Any advice to help contestants prepare for the sound studio?
Raven: Make sure that your song is fun and catchy. Make sure that you enjoy singing, and drink tea.
Teenmag: Ah, yes, the tea! As a singer you know how important that can be. In fact, your fourth record is finished and you've just embarked on a tour that'll have you performing at Six Flags and fairs nationwide. What is it like to be on tour?
Raven: A lot of traveling. A lot of hotels, ones that youve never slept in. I have a bag right now filled with my blanket and my own pillow. There are a lot of people in each spot that you dont really know. I work with them that day, and move on and find new people. So purging and cleansing your friend list every day.
