Do let hair air dry when you want defined Nicole Kidman-like curls; gently smooth a dab of styling gel like Ouidad Curl Control or L.A. Looks Frizz Control Gel through wet hair to prevent frizz and keep curls controlled. To minimize crunchiness, mix a drop or two of shine enhancer in with your styling gel.

Do use a diffuser attachment if you can't air-dry your hair. Since it doesn't blow hair all over the place, curls stay neat and together. (Tip: Never bunch or mush curls; you'll get better, loopy waves if you cup your hand at the ends and gently "push" hair upwards as you dry it.)

Do make use of a jumbo curling iron to tame an unruly mane and add beautiful waves. First, spritz hair with a thermal heat protectant. Holding your curling iron vertically, roll two-inch sections of hair along the rod; hold for several seconds, release and gently shake out hair into waves.

Do use a wide-tooth comb after showering, then gently arrange hair into your desired style using your fingers. Brushing wet or dry curls leads to breakage and a poufy 'do.
