Have an easy backup style for bad hair days.
We all know what can almost guarantee blah hair: Rain and sticky humidity. Instead of making a go at your usual style, then loading on tons of products to try to make it stay the way you want it, have an easy backup style. Practice a pretty French twist or a simple ballerina-like chignon (wrap a ponytail around its base and tuck the ends under the elastic or secure them with bobby pins). Or, splurge on a cool barrette for a chic ponytail. You'll save yourself a lot of grief.
Air-dry hair 70 percent, then finish with a blowdryer.
This is the secret to silky, soft volume, not flat-o-lah or frizzed-out locks. A common goof is blowdrying hair half way then letting it air-dry. That's how you get frizz. Another mistake is blowdrying sopping wet hair till it's parched, which zaps all its body and leaves it flat. (The exception is curly hair, which looks best when it air-dries completely. If you're in a rush, use a diffuser attachment-it won't blast hair all around and break up your curls.
